2016 has been a vintage year for Elton John; he released his 33rd studio album Wonderful Crazy Night to rapturous applause, and wowed audiences across the UK with his epic live show which culminated in a headline performance last weekend at Hyde Park in London for BBC Radio 2. Last night he also performed at the annual Apple Music Festival.

From Longleat to Leicester, Edinburgh to Exeter, Elton John brought his unmistakable showmanship to the stage. The Guardian exclaimed how the Meadowbank Stadium show was “a hit parade of peerless pomp”, with the Herald observing “the maestro's unbridled raison d'etre of showbiz classicist...sits somewhere between Liberace and Mozart”.

It was no different at the Lincolnshire Showground, where The Lincolnshire Echo simply declared, “when Sir Elton John came to Lincoln, Lincoln had one wonderful, crazy night”. In Liverpool, the Echo observed, “every song was note perfect, packed with the kind of energy that belies his years”

Now fans in London, Derby, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Peterborough, Ipswich, Widnes and Airdrie can look forward to what will be one of the music events of 2017, as Elton John announces shows at The Twickenham Stoop (3 June) Derby’s The 3aaa County Ground (4 June), Birmingham Genting Arena (7 June), Leeds First Direct Arena (8 June), Blackburn Ewood Park (10 June), Peterborough ABAX Stadium (11 June), Ipswich Portman Road (17 June), Widnes Select Security Stadium (18 June) and Airdrie Excelsior Stadium (24 June), performing songs from his latest studio album, ‘Wonderful Crazy Night’, as well as his most-loved hits and classic album tracks.

An unmistakable name in the history of popular music, Elton John has done it all – and then some. From being awarded multiple Grammys and BRITs, and even an Oscar and a Tony Award, Elton has proven his universal acclaim. In addition to selling more than 250 million records worldwide, with 38 gold and 31 platinum or multi-platinum albums, he has also written the music for stage and screen successes Billy Elliot: The Musical, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, and The Lion King, which was named the highest-grossing stage show or film release in the world.

Elton John has over 4,000 performances, in more than 80 countries, to his credit since launching his first tour in 1970. Having performed at several of the world’s most recognisable venues – including a pair of residencies at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Elton continues to be one of this country’s biggest pop-culture exports.

ELTON JOHN ANNOUNCES SPECIAL SUMMER DATE AT WESTPOINT EXETER ON SUNDAY JUNE 19TH 2016

ONLY THE POP ICON’S THIRD TIME EVER PLAYING IN EXETER

Tickets On-Sale: Friday 23th October 10AM

He is one of the most recognisable, most decorated and bestselling British artists of all time, and once again Elton John will perform on British shores, having announced a string of huge dates in June next year – including a very special show at Westpoint Exeter on June 19th.

Elton will, as part of these dates, bring his world-renowned live band show to Exeter on June 19th, in what will be a truly unique and special event – he has only performed in Exeter twice before, once in 1973 and once in 2003 solo. So it is over 40 years since Elton and his band have performed in Exeter.

Having given over 4000 performances in a career spanning more than fifty years, Elton said:

“The simple truth is I want to spend more time with my family, and I am only too aware of just how precious the time ahead is. My sons are growing up so quickly; their early years are just flying by and I want to be there with them. So these concerts will give me the chance to thank the British audiences who have been so faithful to me over these many decades. We cannot get to everyone but I am going to try to get back to people who love music but get so few concerts – so that makes Exeter important to me”.

On having Elton perform, Westpoint Exeter Chief Executive Richard Maunder said:

“We are delighted to be welcoming Sir Elton John to Westpoint Exeter on Sunday 19th June 2016. It will be the first outdoor concert since planning permission was granted in 2012 for 3 outdoor concerts per year, and I am sure it will be well supported by all those who love the music that the ‘Rocket Man’ has belted out during his amazing 40-year career. It promises to be a night to remember”.

An unmistakable name in the history of popular music, Elton John has done it all – and then some. From being awarded multiple Grammys and BRITs, and even an Oscar and a Tony Award, Elton has proven his universal acclaim. In addition to selling more than 250 million records worldwide, through his partnership with lyricist Tim Rice, Elton wrote the music for the feature film and Broadway stage production of ‘The Lion King”.

Having performed at several of the world’s most recognisable venues – including a pair of residencies at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Elton John continues to be one of this country’s biggest pop-culture exports, and as such, welcoming him to Westpoint Exeter on June 19th will be a rare opportunity.
