One of the most gifted vocal talents the UK has ever produced, Marc Almond, has announced a unique, one-off birthday concert at Royal Festival Hall, celebrating the 20th Century torch songs that he grew up listening to.

Almond will take the audience on a journey through these timeless, nostalgic and deeply atmospheric songs accompanied by the Leeds College of Music Contempoarary Orchestra and Pop Choir, as well as performing his greatest solo hits and with Soft Cell, which will be specifically arranged for this event.

Performing with the Orchestra and Choir holds special significance for the Ivor Novello award-winner, as Almond was made a Fellow at Leeds College of Music in 2014, having attended Leeds Polytechnic in the 1970s.

The vocalist, who found fame as one half of 80s duo Soft Cell, has had a diverse career as a solo artist and has sold over 30 million records worldwide, collaborating with the likes of Gene Pitney and Jools Holland along the way.

On performing the songs he has grown up listening to and have inspired him at Royal Festival Hall, Almond said:

“Dark romantic Torch songs of unrequited longing and lost love have always been at the centre of my music. It is a real pleasure and gives me renewed energy to sing some of these classics, many well known, some lesser so, and of course a selection of songs from my own repertoire.  I will be performing the concert with the brilliant young musicians of Leeds College of Music.”

With one of the most compelling and heartfelt voices around, Almond will give fans a real treat as part of his celebrations by preforming a show fit for a very special occasion.
